Stanley Cup Playoff Odds Goalies Stats

Facing death right in the face Nashville prevailed on the hostile home ice of Winnipeg on Monday.  Goaltender Pekka Rinne stopped 34 shots for a much-needed shutout victory.  Rinne has been a liability with the Stanley Cup Playoff odds.  But with the season on the line he was his old self again.  Filip Forsberg had two goals and one assist with a plus four for the Preds.  Viktor Andersson added two goals and one assist with a plus four.  And PK Subban delivered his guarantee with a plus two.  A party atmosphere in Winnipeg was doused out completely.

Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will be under intense pressure in game seven.  His playoff save percentage is .922.  He has posted two shutouts.  Hellebuyck must shake off a subpar game six performance.  Jets center Mark Scheifele has nine goals with five assets and a plus four.  Scheifele’s great post season will be rendered meaningless with a loss.  Also facing pressure is defenseman Dustin Byfuglien.  “Big Buff” has four goals and eight assists with a plus six.

What it means for Nashville

For Nashville this series will come down to Pekka Rinne.  Despite the Monday shutout his save percentage is still only .907.  He has been off his game for much of the post season.  But for his career he has a post season save percentage of .916.  Last year’s Stanley Cup Final run saw Rinne post a spectacular .930.  So, game seven is a matter of which Rinne fans will get.

Subban is the larger than life presence that can become key under playoff pressure.  He has three goals, and five assists in the post season.  Beyond that he adds an element of leadership not seen on a scoresheet.  When he arrived in a trade from Montreal it was celebrated.  PK is considered the man that can carry a team to the Cup Final.

Nashville has beaten the sportsbook in 10 of their last 17 with Winnipeg.  Seven of the last 11 in this series went over the total.  Bridgestone Arena has seen the Preds win 12 of their last 18 against the Jets.  Six of the last eight at Nashville in this series went over the total.

Matchup to Watch

Winnipeg is likely to pay for letting Nashville off the hook.  The Predators got a stay of execution with the Stanley Cup Playoff odds.  Home ice should be the difference.
