Capitals Win Low Scoring Series
The Capitals won a hard fought, low scoring series against the Rangers.  The Capitals won Game 5 by a score of 3-1 as Alex Ovechkin scored.  It was a quick series for the Capitals and that is unusual considering under head coach Bruce Boudreau the Capitals almost always play the full seven games.  In fact, under Boudreau the Capitals had played four playoff series and all four went seven games. The Capitals win over New York was the first time they won a series in less than seven games since 1998. The Capitals also got goals on Saturday from Mike Green and Alexander Semin. Goaltender Michal Neuvirth made 26 games and just missed out on the shutout.  Washington allowed just eight goals in the series.

Rangers No Match for the Capitals
New York was fortunate just to make the playoffs as the #8 seed and they were no match for Washington. The Rangers had Henrik Lundqvist in goal and not much else. The Rangers lost leading scorer Ryan Callahan before this series even began and they have no goal scorers. The Rangers had some chances to win low scoring games in this series but couldn’t get the big goals in Game 1 or in Game 4.  Washington is the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference and they were simply too good for the Rangers in this series.

Series Notes
Ovechkin and Semin each scored three goals in the series to lead the Capitals. Washington actually did well at home in the series, winning three times.  The home team won four of the five games in this series and that is what is supposed to happen since the home teams are normally favored. In this year’s NHL playoffs the road teams have been rolling for gamblers making an NHL bet.  In the first 37 playoff games, the road team won 22 times in NHL betting.
