Bruins Want Revenge
No one who makes an NHL bet is going to forget what happened in the playoffs between these two teams last year. The Bruins led 3-0 in the series and 3-0 in Game 7 but blew both leads and lost to the Flyers. Boston will try and get some serious revenge in this seven-game series that begins on Saturday.
Flyers -125
The Flyers are a very slight favorite in NHL betting to win this series. They are also a small -135 favorite in Game 1 on Saturday with the total listed at 5.5 under. The Flyers have a deep team that can get goals from a lot of different players. They got at least one goal from eight different forwards in their series win over Buffalo. Danny Briere is their big time playoff scorer and he had six goals against the Sabres. He is the top scorer in this year’s playoffs. Claude Giroux is the leader in the NHL with 8 playoff assists. The Bruins don’t have as much offensive firepower as the Flyers but Nathan Horton did have three goals in the series against Montreal. Both teams are solid on defense but the edge in goal has to go to Boston. They have Tim Thomas while the Flyers go with Brian Boucher. The Flyers did get some big efforts out of Boucher but he is still a backup goalie who they are using in the playoffs. Philadelphia became the first time since 1988 to win a playoff series by using three different starting goalies. Boston also made history in their series against Montreal as they were the first team in NHL history to win a series without scoring a power play goal as they went 0 for 21.
Pressure on Boston
The pressure in this series is all on the Bruins. They choked away the series last year and anything less than a victory in this series against the Flyers won’t be tolerated. Head coach Claude Julien could be out if the Bruins lose this series. Philadelphia head coach Peter Laviolette seems to be making all the right moves so far in the playoffs and he gives the Flyers and edge in this series.
