The NHL hockey betting playoffs are always exciting but especially so when the underdogs come through and give the world a reason to place hockey bets. Last night, the opening night of the 2010 NHL playoff betting, upsets in the online betting was the theme de jour and anyone who bet against the hockey odds last night probably did pretty well for themselves.
By far the biggest upset of the night was the #5 seed Senators taking the first game of the hockey betting series with #4 seed, and defending Stanley Cup betting champion, Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-4. The Pens offense was in sync and Crosby and Malkin were on fire but the Pens simply couldn’t keep the Sens out of the net. If you were on the right side of this hockey bet there was a big payout to your online betting account.
The Philly Flyers win over the heavily favored New Jersey Devils also certainly deserved consideration for the biggest upset in the hockey betting last night as well. The Flyers barely snuck into the NHL playoff betting action as the #7 and then in its first game the team goes out and knocks off the #2 seed in the east and one of the Stanley Cup betting favorites. Jersey has got to toughen up and should still win this physical hockey betting series.
The hockey betting upset action wasn’t just limited to the East Coast either as the heavily favored San Jose Sharks fell in their first NHL playoff betting matchup as well. As the top seed in the West the Sharks were expected to waltz through the first night of the hockey playoff betting action but the #8 seed Colorado Avalanche had something to say about that. In what most online betting experts thought would be a cake walk the Avalanche held its own against the Sharks and pulled off a narrow 2-1 in the NHL odds action.
