The Detroit Tigers have struggled coming out of the All-Star break vs. the online bookmaker baseball odds and it may not get better anytime soon since the team lost third baseman Brandon Inge to a broken hand. The Tigers were beaten on Monday in offshore betting baseball odds by the Texas Rangers and they lost Inge in the process.
Online bookmaker odds on Detroit probably won’t be affected by the Inge injury but he is an important player for the Tigers. He was hit by a pitch from Texas pitcher Scot Feldman in the third inning. X-rays showed that he has a non-displaced fracture of his fifth metacarpal. He is expected to be out for at least the next month and probably longer.
Detroit has some troubles that could make them a team to avoid in offshore betting in the second half of the baseball season. They can’t win on the road and that is not the mark of a playoff team. They got swept at Cleveland in four straight games coming out of the All-Star game. Good teams don’t go into Cleveland and get swept. The problem for Detroit on the road is a pitching staff that is not getting the job done. Their starting rotation is far worse on the road than at home. Most of the pitchers in the rotation have an ERA that is two runs per game higher on the road. Some like Armando Gallaraga are even worse. His road ERA is more than five runs per game higher on the road. It doesn’t help that Detroit has scored far fewer runs on the road than at home. It should be noted that Comerica Park is definitely a pitchers park but the road/home splits are still ridiculous. The Tigers need to start playing better on the road, regardless of the numbers.
Detroit manager Jim Leyland said that the Tigers have to play better on the road and within their own division. So far in the second half of the season they have not done either of those two things. Looking at the three contenders in the American League Central, the Tigers have the worst road record by far. They also have the best home record but usually a division race comes down to which team can win on the road and the Tigers have major issues in that regard.
