The seeds for the French Open may not match the odds at the bookmaker. The favorite on the men’s side is Rafael Nadal even though he is seeded second while the favorite in offshore betting on the women’s side is Justine Henin and she is seeded 22nd.
Bookmaker odds on the Frenchh Open have the potential to be very interesting since some of the favorites could be meeting before the final, especially on the women’s side. Henin is just the 22nd seed but she is a solid favorite in offshore betting French Open odds. Her path is not an easy one as she could face Maria Sharapova in the third round and Serena Williams in the quarterfinals. Serena is the top seed at the French Open while her sister Venus is the number two seed. The defending champion of the French Open is Svetlana Kuznetsova and she is the number three seed. Jelena Jankovic is playing as well as anyone and she is seeded fourth. Henin won the French Open in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. She retired before the 2008 tournament. She returned to the tour this season and reached the final of the Australian Open.
The men’s side is more predictable in terms of seeding. Roger Federer is the top seed but he is a distance second choice in bookmaker odds behind second seed Rafael Nadal. Federer is really not playing that well and clay has never been his favorite surface. He finally won the French Open last year but he didn’t have to beat Nadal to get the title. Nadal was upset last year but an upset in bookmaker French Open odds seems very unlikely this time around considering how dominant Nadal has been this year. He has been rolling on clay coming into the French Open.
The third seed is Novak Djokovic while the fourth seed is Andy Murray. It will be Murray taking on Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the opening round. The fifth seeded Robin Soderling could be playing Federer in the quarterfinals this year. They met in the final last year. Andy Roddick is seeded sixth but he rarely plays well on clay and is a longshot in bookmaker odds. Fernando Verdasco is the seventh seed while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is seeded eighth.
