The odds at the online bookmaker are slowly being adjusted giving the San Diego Padres a little bit of respect. When a team wins six in a row they can no longer be ignored in offshore betting. Online bookmaker odds have listed the Padres as underdogs in almost every game this season but that is beginning to change. The Padres were not expected to even give teams a battle this season, yet after 15 games they led the National League West. The Padres were winning on a regular basis at home including some nice wins over rival San Francisco. Even Jon Garland got into the act.
He was a big pickup in the offseason for the Padres and he got his first win as the Padres beat the Giants 5-2 in online bookmaker odds. “It’s nice to get that first win out of the way,” he said. Garland started on opening day for the Padres. He signed a one-year, $4.7 million contract for this season. “His secondary pitches were all very solid,” Padres manager Bud Black said. “His change-up has improved over his last two starts. His velocity has picked up. When he needed something extra, he threw a sinker to get outs.” Garland didn’t get much run support in his first three starts but the Padres got him a few runs in his first win. “It’s just a matter of keeping it down, keeping everything down,” he said. “In this park, it’s what you want. It’s a sign of executing pitches.” The Padres have owned the Giants at Petco Park of late, winning 10 of their last 12.
The Padres began the season by winning seven of their first nine home games vs. the odds at the online bookmaker The Padres still need to work on their road record but few people expected them to even make a dent in the National League West this season in offshore betting. The San Diego pitching has been superb. They were 2nd in the league in ERA after 15 games and that was a major shock.
The online bookmaker can sometimes be slow to react to a team’s wins and losses but when a team wins six straight the odds have to move. The Padres still don’t get a ton of respect but they no longer are without a chance in the National League for this season.
