Online betting fans took note of a major signing by the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. The Red Bulls signed French striker Thierry Henry on Wednesday to a multi-year deal. The interest in the Red Bulls in Internet betting may go up a little bit with the addition of Henry.
Online betting on MLS games is not nearly that of other soccer leagues but when star players are on a team there is more action. The Los Angeles Galaxy got a lot of attention from their signing of David Beckham and New York should get some mileage out of Thierry Henry. How much he helps their team on the field is another story. He is 32 years old and has not done much recently. He is expected to make his debut next week when New York faces Tottenham in an exhibition match.
Henry was released by Barcelona last month. He scored just four goals for Barcelona this past season and was not even a regular starter. New York is hoping that the addition of Henry will increase interest in the team and that they can get something out of him. New York general manager Erik Soler was excited to add Henry to the team.
Henry used to be a great player. He was a major factor for France when they won the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000. He led Arsenal to the Premier League title in 2002 and in 2004. He left in 2007 to join Barcelona. The team had a great year in 2009 but Henry’s play has slipped and he was a non-factor this season.
New York players are saying all the right things about Henry although they have little choice. Leading scorer Juan Pablo Angel was happy that the team acquired Henry. He is aware that Henry will help the team off the field in terms of fan support. Midfielder Seth Stammler knows all about Henry’s accomplishments and believes that he can help New York win more games. It will be interesting to see if Henry has anything left. If he can regain some of his former scoring touch he and Juan Pablo Angel could form a nice duo for the Red Bulls and New York might have more success vs. MLS Internet betting odds.
