It’s little surprise to most football fans that the University of Alabama is the favorite in the preseason offshore wagering odds to win the BSC National Title in 2011.
The Alabama Tide erased any doubt last year with its convincing win the title game and despite losing several key players to the NFL this team is still loaded with talent. The team returns it’s starting QB, key O-lineman and its Heisman Trophy winning RB.
Early online wagering companies’ predictions list Alabama’s odds at somewhere around 9-2 of repeating as Champs. But repeating as back to back champs is something that is almost unheard of in modern day college football action and playing in the highly competitive SEC there is almost no margin for error for the Tide.
Second on list of offshore wagering odds is Ohio State University with roughly 5-1 odds of winning a BCS title. OSU returns it’s starting QB and some talented players on defense and at the skill positions on offense but Terrelle Pryor has failed to live up the hype and Big 10 is overrated as conference. Buckeyes are not a smart bet to win the championship.
USC was listed as a 15-1 favorite to win the whole ball of wax with a promising young QB and a ridiculous collection of talent, but Pete Carroll jumped ship and with the school’s suspension the Trojans are now off the board. Nebraska has benefitted from USC’s misfortunes and seen its stock rise all the way to 10-1 odds on the betting board.
Out west the Boise State Broncos are finally looking to break through and get an invite to the college football championship game. After years of running up a perfect record and being spurned at alter, by the BSC committee this team means business and at 15-1 odds it certainly has proved itself worthy at the highest level of competition.
The Virginia Tech Hokies are also a team to watch and has seen some movement up the betting board in recent weeks. The Hokies are 15-1 favorites and if they can get through a very tough ACC schedule they’ll have earned the right to play in a BCS game.
