Parity has overtaken the NFL online wagering action. Of that there is little doubt and there is no better evidence than that revelation than the fact that after three weeks of NFL action in the 2010 season there will only be three teams with a perfect 3-0 record. That is a rarity and something that does not occur every day in this league.
After the Week 3 action on Sunday only two teams emerged unscathed from the carnage with a perfect record intact. And those two teams are major surprises to most football fans. The Kansas City Chiefs were among a small pack of teams that online wagering companies virtually ignored in their Super Bowl odds and the Pittsburgh Steelers are playing with their 4th string QB.
Neither of teams was expected to have a winning record at this point in the NFL online wagering season yet here they are, both with perfect 3-0 records –soon to be joined by one more team after Monday Nights showdown between two 2-0 teams: the Green Bay Packers vs. the Chicago Bears.
The Chiefs are the biggest surprise of the season so far. This is a team that looked awful last year and did very little to improve itself in the offseason. It had a decent draft but nothing spectacular. Its high-priced franchise QB, Matt Cassel has looked awful in his brief stint in KC and it’s got one of the weakest groups of receivers in the league. Yet the Chiefs have won and won big first over the San Diego Chargers, than the Cleveland Browns and last week the San Fran 49ers. Against the Niners the Chiefs passing game excelled and Cassel had one of his best games in a Chiefs uniform (16-27, 250 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT).
For the Steelers, there was plenty of speculation about this team entering the season and not just because it would be playing the first month of the NFL online wagering season without QB Ben Roethlisberger. Critics said the O-line was no good, the team couldn’t run the ball and its WR group was suspect.
But three weeks on the team is 3-0 and hasn’t just won but dominated the competition all behind 4th-string dinosaur Charlie Batch. When Big Ben comes back this could be a very dangerous team.
