Online Wagering Update: UConn Is the New NCAA Basketball Champions. Back in October, as the NCAA basketball online wagering season was just getting underway with teams holding midnight practices and the preseason games just around the corner if you have told anyone with even the slightest understanding of college basketball that the UConn Huskies would win the NCAA Tournament they almost certainly have agreed with you.
The Women’s NCAA Tournament that is entering the college hoops seasons the women Huskies had won over 80 straight games and back to back national titles. They were the overwhelming favorites to win this year as well.
But the ladies fell short of the mark getting knocked out of the Final Four by a feisty Notre Dame team and it was the UConn men’s squad that clinched the schools NCAA Tournament title instead.
And that is something that no one expected. Not even Coach Jim Calhoun or the players.
But the March Madness has finally run its course and after the somewhat ugly but affective 53-41 victory over the Butler Bulldogs, the UConn men are national champions for the 3rd time in school history and the second time in 7 years.
It’s been a wild and UN predictable ride for this Huskies squad, one that begins as an unranked team in the preseason. After a hot start this team caught the attention of the online wagering community but it closed the regular Big East season losing 4 out its last 5 games and most people wrote the team off for dead.
But then came the post season burst that propelled this team all the way to the championship. The Huskies won an unprecedented 5 games in 5 days in the Big East tournament to capture the conference online wagering title.
Then it won six straight in the NCAA tournament to capture the title.
All the way this team was led by junior guard Kemba Walker who put on one of the most impressive tournament performances in memory lighting up opponents on both ends of the court and rebounding like Denis Rodman.
The Huskies were not a popular online wager to win the Big Dance at the outset of the tournament but if the 2011 NCAA Tournament taught us anything, it’s that it’s all but impossible to figure out this crazy competition and just when you think you’ve got it figured out, it will throw you a massive curve ball like this year’s wild competition.
