Online wagering this season on IndyCar has been all about Will Power. The Penske driver has won the first two races of the season and is becoming a popular choice for those that are wagering online on IndyCar. Online wagering on the Honda Grand Prix did not have Power as the favorite but he won yet again. He was able to get the lead on the 78th lap and held off Justin Wilson for the win. If you don’t think that the first two races of the season are not important in IndyCar online wagering, then you may want to go back into the history books.
The last time a driver opened the season with two straight wins in IndyCar he won the title. “I don’t think there’s anything better than winning, unless there’s some other position,” Power said. The last driver to win the first two races of the IndyCar season was Sam Hornish in 2001 and he won the title. Power has a 44-point lead after two races this season. Last year’s champion, Dario Franchitti is in second followed by Ryan Hunter-Reay and Wilson.
Penske continues to dominate online wagering on IndyCar. Power won the race, Dan Wheldon was third and Helio Castroneves was fourth. “I think we’re pretty good just about anywhere,” said Wheldon. In between the Penske drivers was Wilson who led for a while. “Third last year, second this year,” Wilson said. “Can’t wait for next year.” Wilson just didn’t have the car to overtake Power. “My team just kept saying, ‘Just follow Will,” Wilson said. “Obviously, when you’re hot, you’re hot, so we knew he would always be on the right strategy. We copied him exactly. … I was pushing hard every lap to try to see if I could get close to Will, to see if there was any chance he would make a mistake. It didn’t come.” Franchitti finished in fifth place and was followed by Alex Tagliani and Danica Patrick.
The online wagering question going forward will be whether or not anyone can beat the Penske drivers. Power was an afterthought on the team by those who consider IndyCar online wagering to start the season but not anymore. “Really happy for Will Power. … He’s doing a great job,” Briscoe said. “We’re all learning from each other, and I’m learning a hell of a lot from him, too.” Castroneves has the bigger name but even he realizes that Power is going great. “We just have to stop the guy, man,” Castroneves said, “What’s going on with Will Power?”
