Online wagering will spotlight the St. Louis Rams this month as they have the first pick in the NFL Draft. The Rams recently released quarterback Marc Bulger and all indication are they will take Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with the number one pick. Wagering online on St. Louis games hasn’t been very successful in recent seasons but that may start to change if the Rams get a new quarterback.
Online wagering odds favor the Rams taking Bradford with the number one pick but St. Louis general manager Billy Devaney said the Rams have not made a decision. Whether Devaney is being truthful or whether he is just trying to be coy is unclear but Devaney did say that the team has not made up its mind. “A couple of weeks ago we were at Suh’s workout and we left and said ‘Oh my gosh, this guy’s really something!’ A week before that we watched Gerald McCoy and it was like ‘Oh my gosh, this guy’s really something!’ It’s like a beauty contest, you can’t go wrong. One is more beautiful than the other.” Devaney said.
If the Rams had drafted successfully in the past then perhaps taking Suh or McCoy would make sense this time. Those that are wagering online will remember that St. Louis has not drafted that well in recent seasons though and they have continually passed up top quarterbacks like Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez. Whether or not Devaney will say so, the pressure is on the Rams to take a quarterback. They will be working out Bradford, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen. “We haven’t come close to deciding,” Devaney said.
Oftentimes a team will not want to show their hand in regards to the NFL Draft because of monetary concerns. The Rams would like to select Bradford but they have concerns they may not be able to sign him. They really have no choice but to take a quarterback now that they have released Marc Bulger. The other quarterbacks on the roster are A.J. Feeley, Keith Null and Mike Reilly.
St. Louis needs to improve an offense that was terrible last season. The Rams have not been able to score points and in the NFL that means you can’t win very many games and it means you don’t cover the online wagering odds that often.
