December 1st, 2021 Oscars Betting Odds

Academy Awards odds results didn’t have many surprises as the 81st Academy Awards went as expected. Academy Awards took an expected turn when “Slumdog Millionaire” won best picture honors and was heavily favored in Oscars to do so.  None of the main category winners in Academy Awards odds were a surprise.

Academy Awards had “Slumdog Millionaire’s” Danny Boyle winning for best director.  He was the heavy favorite in Oscars odds and was not a surprise winner.  Kate Winslet was a solid favorite in Academy Awards odds for best actress and she took the Oscar for her performance in “The Reader.”  It was vindication of sorts for Winslett who had never won an Oscar before, despite being nominated five times.

Sean Penn won best actor in Academy Awards for his performance in “Milk.”  He was the close second choice behind Mickey Rourke in Oscars odds so his win was really not that much of a surprise.  Rourke actually predicted Penn would win.

The biggest favorite in Academy Awards was Heath Ledger for his performance as the “Joker” in “Dark Knight.”  Ledger won the Oscar posthumously as he died last year due to a prescription drug overdose.Ledger’s father, mother and sister accepted the award.

The best supporting actress winner in Academy Awards was Penelope Cruz who won for her performance in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”  She was also the heavy favorite in Oscars odds.  Another heavy favorite in Academy Awards odds was the film “WALL-E” which won for best animated film.

Overall, the Academy Awards didn’t hold much suspense.  There were no big surprise winners in Academy Awards.  First-time host Hugh Jackman did a nice job on the show, although he sometimes went a little overboard.

Some of the other awards that didn’t get much attention in Academy Awards went to “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” as the film won for won for makeup, art direction and visual effects. “Milk” was the winner for best original screenplay. “Man on Wire,” won for best documentary.

Academy Awards this year were very predictable as were the overall television ratings.  The Academy Awards show continues to drop in the ratings each year due to its length and lack of drama.
