2021 Preakness Stakes Sleepers Could Bring Essential Value – Saturday May 15, 2021

2021 Preakness Stakes Sleepers Could Bring Essential Value Saturday May 15, 2021

Kentucky Debry champion Medina Spirit may not carry that moniker much longer. And Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert may forever have a tarnished name. Cause by a failed post-Derby drug test. Medina Spirit tested positive for a banned substance. A second test is pending. Subsequently, if he fails that test, he will be stripped of the Kentucky Derby championship. All of which flips the script for the 2021 Preakness Stakes Odds. Mandaloun will be named Kentucky Derby champion if Medina Spirit is stripped. However, Mandaloun won’t run the Preakness. Baffert’s third Triple Crown is becoming doubtful.

2021 Preakness Stakes SBG Odds Overview

In this situation, finding a good alternative to Medina Spirit becomes an offshore betting necessity. Baffert is scheduled to enter the co-favorite Concert Tour. Also, Midnight Bourbon carries the status of a preferred betting choice. But since there are prospects that can bring a win and at a favorable price. Another factor is the potential for later entries. The Maryland Jockey Commission is reviewing the Medina Spirit case. In a public statement, the commission vowed the Preakness Stakes would be clean. Thus, if Medina Spirit is kicked out of the race, other horses may be entered in an opportunistic shot at glory.

Crowded Trade in the Money All Three of His Past Races

Chad C. Brown-trained Crowded Trade has been in the money in all three of his previous starts. The last time out for Crowded Trade was the April 3 Grade 2 Wood Memorial. Thus, he is a well-rested colt for Saturday’s Preakness Stakes. Crowded Trade finished third in the Wood Memorial. On March 6, Crowded Trade finished second at the Grade 3 Gotham. And then, on January 28, Crowded Trade won a maiden race at Aqueduct.

Rombauer Brings Considerable Potential and Experience

The last time out for Rombauer was April 3 at the Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes. He finished third behind Essential Quality and Highly Motivated. Previously Rombauer won the El Camino Real Derby on February 13. Rombauer’s 5th place finish turned off gamblers at the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. But they did like his second-place finish at the Grade 1 American Pharoah.

Keepmeinmind Inconsistent but Capable of More

Keepmeinmind finished a disappointing 7th in the Kentucky Derby. Previously on April 3, he was 5th at the Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes. On March 13, Keepmeinmind was 6th at the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes. However, Keepmeinmind was the winner of the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club last November. Further, Keepmeinmind finished 3rd at the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile. Second place at the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity adds to his resume.

Risk Taking May Be Worthwhile

Overall, Risk Taking intrigues bargain hunters and Wise Guys with the 2021 Preakness Stakes Odds. Although he finished 7th at the Grade 2 Wood Memorial, he has a good resume. First place at the Grade 3 Withers on February 6 is indicative of his potential. Also on the win ledger was a maiden race at Aqueduct.
