2009 Preakness Stakes contenders begin with Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird. While Mine That Bird is among the 134 Preakness contenders, he is unlikely to go off as the post time favorite.
2009 Preakness contenders include Kentucky Derby third place and fourth place finishers Musket Man and Papa Clem. The other three horses that are possible from the Kentucky Derby field are second place finisher Pioneerof the Nile, General Quarters who finished 10th, Friesan Fire who finished 18th and Flying Private who was last.
The new blood could be the way to go with 2009 Preakness contenders. A maximum of 14 horses are allowed in the Preakness and with a 50-1 longshot winning the Derby, many trainers will be taking their shot at Mine That Bird. Fourteen of the last seventeen Preakness Stakes have seen at least 10 horses entered. Horses that did not run in the Derby but will be 2009 Preakness Stakes contenders include Big Drama, Take The Points and Hull.
