2010 Preakness betting is likely to include five horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby including Super Saver. Preakness Stakes odds list Derby winner Super Saver as the favorite while the other four have odds ranging from single-digits to longshot numbers.
2010 Preakness betting is likely to have 13 or 14 horses in the field. Super Saver will be the favorite with Lookin at Lucky the second choice. Other horses coming back to run in the Preakness after running in the Derby are Dublin, Jackson Bend and Paddy O’Prado.
This is the second straight year in Preakness Stakes odds where the Derby winner is not getting a lot of respect from other trainers. Last year it was Mine That Bird that everyone took a shot at. This time it is Super Saver. “It looks like people aren’t believing what Calvin [Borel] said,” Jackson Bend’s trainer Nick Zito said. Borel said after the Kentucky Derby that he believes Super Saver will win the Triple Crown.
One of the horses that was a disappointment in the Derby was Jackson Bend. He finished 12th after finishing first or second in his previous nine races. He did not have a good trip in the Derby though. He is working well for the Preakness though. He went four furlongs in 46.60 seconds under exercise rider Stacy Prior on Monday. That was the best time of 69 horses at that distance for Monday at Churchill Downs. “This horse is as tough as nails, maybe the toughest I have ever been around,” Zito said, “He reminds me of Birdstone. The horse deserves another chance.”
Another horse that is getting another chance is Lookin at Lucky trained by Bob Baffert. He had a troubled trip in the Derby and now will get a new jockey as Martin Garcia will ride. “He’s been training well and is his old self. He deserves another chance at it.” Baffert said about Lookin at Lucky who finished sixth. Paddy O’Prado was third in the Derby while Dublin was seventh. Both are taking another shot and will be in the 2010 Preakness betting field.
The Preakness will not include When a Little Warm or Mission Impazible as both horses were ruled out on Tuesday. That meant that First Dude was almost assured to get into the field. He is trained by Dale Romans who also trains Paddy O’Prado.
