Preakness: Analyzing Saturday’s Post Positions in Preakness Stakes . Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom will start from post position #11 and go off as the favorite in Preakness Stakes betting on Saturday. The outside post should not hurt Animal Kingdom’s chances of winning the second race in the Triple Crown. Just on the inside of Animal Kingdom is Dialed In who is the second choice in Preakness betting at 9-2. Here is a look at all of the post positions and odds for Saturday’s race.
Outside Post Positions
The three favorites in Preakness betting at the Sbg global sportsbook are all on the outside with Animal Kingdom in Post #11, Dialed In going from #10 and Mucho Macho Man in the #9 post. Unlike the Kentucky Derby, post position is not as critical in the Preakness. Two years ago it was Rachel Alexandra proving that even the outside post is not the kiss of death as she won the race. None of the three favorites should have any problem with the outside posts on Saturday. The far outside post positions could be a problem for Isn’t He Perfect, Concealed Identity and Mr. Commons but none of the three horses are given much of a chance anyway so it really doesn’t matter.
Early Speed
The early speed in the Preakness on Saturday is supposed come from Flashpoint and Shackleford and they will start right beside each other in posts 4 and 5. Midnight Interlude and Dance City also likes to go quickly and they will start side by side in post positions 7 and 8. Astrology is stuck on the rail but the horse seems to have enough speed to get out and go.
