Preakness Stakes betting can sometimes be done successfully if you study the pace setup for the race. Preakness odds will usually show between 8-12 horses in the race and after analyzing the probable pace of the race you should be able to eliminate all but a few. Let’s look at pace and Preakness betting.
Preakness Stakes betting begins by looking at the Kentucky Derby winner and the other horses that came out of that race. While Kentucky Derby winning horses have done well in Preakness betting, runner-ups in the Derby have not fared well at all. Only two of the last 46 Derby runner-ups have won in Preakness betting. That should tell you to immediately throw that horse out in Preakness odds. Keep in mind though that 10 of those 46 didn’t run in the Preakness. That still makes it 2 for 36 which are horrible Preakness odds.
Let’s get back to pace and Preakness betting. If you can predict how a race will be run in terms of pace you have a much better chance to win in Preakness betting. With Preakness betting the speed horses actually have a chance. In the Derby and the Belmont that is not normally the case unless you have a superstar horse.
Preakness Stakes betting shows that the race is a mile and three sixteenth. Preakness odds show that the race has been won 26 times in history wire to wire. That is about one in five races. That means if you have a speed horse in Preakness Stakes betting you must give him serious consideration.
Looking at pace you want to examine how the race will shape up. If a few horses are battling for the lead in the beginning it usually means none of the three will hold on for the win. On the other side of the coin in Preakness betting if you have a pace that is slow it tends to favor horses that are just off the lead and stalk the pace. Take a look at the pace setup for the Preakness and predict how the race will play out. That should improve your chances of picking the Preakness winner.
