One of the horses set to challenge Super Saver in 2010 Preakness Stakes betting is Schoolyard Dreams. And unlike the other horses in Preakness Stakes odds, Schoolyard Dreams has beaten Super Saver in the past.
2010 Preakness betting lists Schoolyard Dreams as one of the longshots but the horse should not be ignored. He lost the Tampa Bay Derby to Odysseus but just barely. That loss cost the horse a chance at the Kentucky Derby as he didn’t have enough earnings to make the field. The owners entered the horse in the Wood Memorial but no horse was going to beat Eskendereya in that race. After the fourth place finish in the Wood the horse was pointed toward the Preakness.
Schoolyard Dreams is working well in advance of the Preakness. His last work was five furlongs in 59.15 seconds at Monmouth Park. “He’s sitting on go,” said part owner Eric Fein, “Anybody who doesn’t think so is crazy.” In the Preakness the horse will be ridden by Eibar Coa. “He moved good,” Coa said about his last work. “The only thing I noticed with him is that he lugged in a little. It was right when he put himself in front, so he’s got that kind of habit, I guess. It’s about just timing him right in a race, but at least he felt good and I liked the way he worked today.” Last year it was Coa who rode Musket Man in the Derby and the Preakness. In his six career starts, Schoolyard Dreams has been ridden by six different jockeys. The sire of Schoolyard Dreams is Stephen Got Even who finished fourth in the 1999 Preakness. Schoolyard Dreams is the grandson of 1992 Belmont Stakes winner A.P. Indy.
Schoolyard Dreams was pointed all along to the Tampa Bay Derby. The owners really expected the horse to win that race and make the Kentucky Derby. He was nipped at the wire by Odysseus but he finished ahead of Super Saver in that race. Trainer Derek Ryan is very confident of his horse for Preakness Stakes odds. “I couldn’t beat Eskendereya – he was a monster,” Ryan said. “He fits in right there with the rest of them.”
Ryan is going to have a big Preakness weekend. He will be sending Schoolyard Dreams in 2010 Preakness betting, Ponzi Scheme in the James Murphy Stakes on the Preakness undercard, and C C’s Pal in the Black-Eyed Susan.
