Online sports betting on the 2009-2010 college basketball season ended on Monday when Duke beat Butler in the title game. Even though the Blue Devils didn’t cover the offshore sports betting point spread, they ended the season ranked #1 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

Online sports betting this past season was very successful on the Duke Blue Devils.  The Blue Devils didn’t cover against Butler but on the whole, it was a very good year for Duke against the point spread.  The Blue Devils finished 23-14-2 against the spread this past season.  They end the season as the top ranked team in the country.  Butler finished the season ranked second in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.  West Virginia finished third, Michigan State fourth and Kentucky finished fifth.  The poll numbers follow what happened in the NCAA Tournament with the Final Four teams finishing in the first four spots.

Kansas was first in the poll for much of the year but they were upset in the NCAA Tournament by Butler in online sports betting and they finished the season ranked 6th.  The top ten was rounded out by Kansas State, Syracuse, Tennessee and Baylor.  Ohio State begins the second ten and they are followed by Purdue, Northern Iowa, Xavier, Villanova, New Mexico, Cornell, Maryland and St. Mary’s. The final five are Pittsburgh, Washington, BYU, Gonzaga, Wisconsin and Texas A&M.

While Duke led the final ESPN/USA Today poll, they were not the best team against the online sports betting number this past season.  Since teams did not play the same amount of games we will rate the Top 25 teams based on percentage.  The best team vs. the online sports betting point spread in 2009-2010 was Princeton. The Tigers were a very solid team vs. the number this past season. They were followed by Southern Miss, Syracuse, Xavier and North Texas.  Northern Iowa was sixth and they were followed by St. Mary’s, Charleston, Kansas State and Temple. The second ten begins with Western Illinois and they were followed by Oregon State, Arkansas State, Appalachian State, Duke, Northwestern, Texas A&M, William & Mary, South Florida and Cornell.  The last five in the Top 25 of the best teams vs. the offshore sports betting point spread were Maryland, Montana, Baylor, UC Davis and Valpariso.  Wagers on these 25 teams showed more wins than losses this past season.
