Sportsbetting heat was turned full blast on Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weiss heading into the 2009 sports betting online season as it was figured he’s need a BCS bowl bid or else. Sportsbetting on the Irish has been an exercise in frustration as Notre Dame has a sports betting online record of 4-1 straight up but just 1-4 against the spread.

After a strong sportsbetting opener against Nevada in which they won by a score of 35-0 to easily cover the sports betting online number as 14.5-point home favorites the Irish have dropped 4 consecutive games to the sportsbetting board despite winning 3 of them straight up. Each sportsbetting matchup was a nail biter that had everyone short of breath at the end.

Notre Dame’s sports betting online run as “Drama Kings” began with a 34-38 loss at Michigan in which they were 3-point sportsbetting favorites. The Irish led 34-31 with under 6 minutes to play before Tate Forcier of the Wolverines hit on a 5 yard TD pass with 11 seconds remaining to steal the sportsbetting cash.

Next for the Irish came a 33-30 sportsbetting result against Michigan State that they failed to cover as 10.5-point chalks. State was driving inside the Irish 10 before throwing the game away on an interception.

The Irish followed that up with a dramatic 24-21 win at Purdue in which they failed to cover the sportsbetting line as 6.5-point favorites. Notre Dame needed a courageous goal line stand in the final moments to escape with the win.

Last week the Irish had a tough sportsbetting matchup with the upstart Washington Huskies in which they won in overtime 37-30 as they failed to cover as 12-point chalks.

As one of the most “public” teams in sportsbetting the Irish always get a lot of betting money thrown their way which serves to drive the price up on their games and make them into overlays, as has been the case this season.

Despite the continual close calls Weiss is in line to meet the preseason demands of Irish Nation and make a BCS bowl game.

Notre Dame has a much needed bye this week before next week’s showdown at home against USC!
