Sports betting will focus on teams like the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox but what teams didn’t make many improvements in the off-season? Who are the online sportsbetting losers in terms of improving their teams?
Sportsbetting on the Mets can be popular but really shouldn’t be. The Mets really did very little in the off-season to improve their team. Most experts believe they overpaid to get Jason Bay who probably can’t hit nearly as well at Citi Field. The Mets have a number of problems and bringing in Bay only solved one of them and opened up others. They have serious holes in their lineup and in their starting rotation and they have done very little to solve them. Trading for Gary Matthews Jr. does virtually nothing in terms of improving them in sports betting. Their best hitter, Carlos Beltran is now unhappy with the team and there is simply not much to like about the Mets in online sportsbetting.
The Philadelphia Phillies are going to get a lot of sports betting press and be a favorite most of the time in 2010 but did they actually help themselves in the off-season. Yes, they got Roy Halladay but they gave up a ton to get him and they didn’t even resign Cliff Lee which now looks like a huge sportsbetting blunder. They extended pitcher Joe Blanton so they had the money. If you can sign an ace like Lee and pair him with Halladay at the top of the rotation you do it. The Phillies didn’t and if Cole Hamels doesn’t recover his form, they are going to regret it.
The Royals have been a mess in sports betting for years. They didn’t do much to change that this online sports betting off-season. They wasted money on Jason Kendall, traded for the Chicago White Sox marginal players and signed Rick Ankiel. The only move that looks like it could pay off is the signing of Ankiel but only if he regains his form. At least the Royals are worth watching in sports betting every fifth day since Zach Grienke is on the team.
The Mets and Royals are going to lose in sports betting this baseball season so their moves probably don’t mean much. The Phillies move not to sign Cliff Lee though could be a huge one in online sports betting.
