The second event of the PGA Tour season takes place this week in Hawaii with Steve Stricker favored in online sports betting.Stricker is the 7.5 to 1 favorite to win the Sony Open. He had a good showing last week but faltered down the stretch to finish tied for fourth. He is a slight favorite in sports betting at SBG this week over Jim Furyk and Ernie Els.
Last week was a winner’s only event so this week’s Sony Open is really where the PGA Tour gets going with a full field. Waialae Country Club plays host to this tournament and it is known for being very windy. Last year the course was the toughest one on tour in fairways hit. It also had the 11th most difficult greens in terms of putting.
Steve Stricker 7.5 to 1
With the course playing tough and demanding solid ball striking and putting, Steve Stricker is solid choice. He was 30th on Tour last year in fairways hit and 12th in putting.
Jim Furyk 10.5 to 1
He is the reigning FedExCup Champ and he won this event back in 1996. He has not played this tournament since 2008. He has five top ten finishes in this tournament.
Ernie Els 10.5 to 1
He won this event in 2003 and in 2004 and has five career top 10 finishes. He played well on Friday in last week’s event at the Hyundai but then faded to a tie for 17th.
Matt Kuchar 14.5 to 1
He tied for sixth last week and was very consistent with every round at 70 or lower. He is definitely someone to watch this week.
Charles Howell 18 to 1
He has never missed the cut in nine tries in this event and has five top five finishes. He is fifth on the tournament’s all-time money winning list but has never won this event.
Adam Scott 18 to 1
He is really overvalued at these online sports betting odds. He tied for 21st last week and really didn’t have a great round.
Robert Allenby 23.5 to 1
If you want a player with nice odds then Allenby is a good choice. He was runner-up last year and has three top 10 finishes in this event in his last five starts.
K.J. Choi 25.5 to 1
He won this event in 2008 and has five finishes in the Top 15. He is always capable of a strong finish.
