Sports betting for some people can involve wagering on totals, commonly referred to as over/unders. This is a form of sportsbetting in which gamblers bet on whether or not the combined score of a game between two teams will go over or under a set number posted by the sports betting oddsmakers.
Sportsbetting totals are common in all of the major sports. For example, if you see a line while you are getting ready for sportsbetting that said New England -12 with a total of 45, the number that you would be concerned with from an over/under perspective is 45. In nearly all cases, the over/under total posted on the Internet sportsbetting board is larger than the pointspread and is also placed to the right of the Internet sports betting pointspread number.
Now let’s say, in our example, that you wanted sports betting action on the New England game to go over the total of 45. Just as is the case with pointspread/side sportsbetting you will have to put up an additional ten-percent above the amount that you are trying to win. If you wanted the over 45 for $500, for example, you would have to put up $550. Let’s say that New England wins 27-24. The combined score would be 51, which would make this game an “over” 45. Now if the game landed on 45 that would make the game a “push” with all Internet sports betting gamblers getting their stake money back.
Keep in mind when sportsbetting it doesn’t matter which team wins the game as far as over/under total wagering goes, the only thing that matters is the combined final score. Over/under wagering has exploded in popularity with those who participate in sports betting and is available on all of the major sports. Often times, for big feature football games, gamblers like to parlay the side and total together.
As you look at sportsbetting this year don’t forget about the totals. They can oftentimes provide better value than the sides. Oddsmakers don’t put nearly the amount of time in making totals in sportsbetting so that is something to keep in mind as you get involved in Internet sports betting this season.
