Redskins Not Making Big Deals This Time

Sports betting had not seen the Washington Redskins be as active in free agency as in past years.Normally Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder would have thrown money away by now but new general manager Bruce Allen seems to be having an effect in Washington. The Redskins might actually be a team to watch in sportsbetting this season.

Sports betting has the Redskins with Allen as the new GM and Mike Shanahan as the new head coach.  In previous sportsbetting seasons the Redskins threw money at every big name free agent and most of the time they flopped.  Not going after big free agents is part of Allen’s plan and it can’t be any worse than in the past when Washington continually overpaid for players.  Allen said that Snyder has given him the go ahead to do it his way. “He didn’t throw anything at me. And he didn’t throw a tantrum. He’s fine with it.” Allen said.

Washington would have liked to have had Julius Peppers who went to the Bears but Allen was not going to overpay for him like Chicago did. “What we did,” said Allen, “is when we got the list of free agents with their phone numbers and agent phone numbers from the league and I highlighted the 40 or 50 we were interested in, and we started calling them. We left messages for some of them, talked to some of them, and told them we were interested. And we’ll see where it takes us.”  Overpaying for free agents simply doesn’t work and Allen knows it. Owner Dan Snyder does not.  The Redskins horribly overpaid for Albert Haynesworth last year and that was just the latest of their free agent busts.

Washington may still pick up some players but they will be reasonably priced.  It is kind of like getting all the suckers out first and then getting to the real deals.  The Bears paid way too much for Peppers and running back Chester Taylor.  The Redskins may be able to get a better running back for less.  Thomas Jones would be a great fit. “The music hasn’t stopped, and there’s still a lot of chairs to be filled,” Allen said.

It is definitely different in Washington now and that is probably a good thing when it comes to sports betting considering the Redskins have failed to deliver on big promises in the past.
