Brett Favre’s 291 consecutive game streaks may come to an end on Sunday with the Minnesota Vikings underdogs at the sports betting companies against the New England Patriots. Favre was diagnosed Monday with two separate fractures in his left ankle and it is possible that Favre will not play on Sunday against the Patriots. That might be good news for the Vikings in sports betting considering how badly Favre has played this season.
Vikings +5 at New England
The Vikings are 5-point underdogs at Sbg global in their game against New England. The line on this game at sports betting companies has really not been affected as the odds makers know that Favre isn’t worth anything anymore. The Vikings might actually be better off with Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback. Favre is old, injured and mistake-prone. Minnesota might actually be a better team if Favre decides his ankle is beyond repair and retires.
Favre Questionable
The status of Favre will remain up in the air until later in the week. Head coach Brad Childress said that Favre has an avulsion fracture and a stress fracture in his ankle. Surgery is not needed but Favre was in a walking boot this week. Childress said that anything is possible though and would not rule out Favre for Sunday.
Childress Upset with Favre
For the first time this season, Childress ripped his quarterback for his poor play after the loss to Green Bay. Favre threw three interceptions in that game and did not make the plays that were needed for Minnesota to win against the sports betting odds. Childress nearly benched Favre on Sunday for his poor play and that might have been the best decision. Now Childress and Favre can both save face. Favre can say he is too hurt to continue and Childress will get bailed out of having to bench the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Jackson is Ready
Tarvaris Jackson said this week that he is ready for the starting quarterback job. He said it is the best he has ever felt about starting. His teammates are very confident he can get the job done. In fact, although the players won’t say it, they want to see Jackson starting. The Vikings were 10-9 with Jackson as the starter. Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe said that Jackson will make good decisions and that is something that Favre has not been doing.
