The Chicago Cubs are in the midst of a poor season vs. the sports betting odds and manager Lou Piniella has seen enough. He retired after Sunday’s game, ending his 22 years as a Major League manager. The Cubs didn’t do much to send him out in style as they were humiliated vs. the online sports betting odds in a 16-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves.
Sports betting results this season indicate that the Cubs are the worst team for gamblers to wager on. The Cubs are overvalued and they have burned the wallets of bettors all year long. Not many bettors will miss Piniella.
Piniella announced last month that he would retire at the end of the season but he is not waiting that long. He said that he wants to spend more time with his family and that Sunday’s game would be his last. Piniella also said that he was needed at home to be with his mother who is sick.
Piniella’s History: Piniella finishes with 1,835 career wins which is fourth among active managers. He was 316-293 with the Cubs. He did a nice job in 2007 and in 2008 but he couldn’t get the team to win in the playoffs. Last year was a bust for Chicago under Piniella and this year the Cubs have been a mess.
Interim Manager: The Cubs will be going with Mike Quade as their interim manager for the rest of the season. It is not like Piniella is going to be missed. The Cubs have been a monumental disappointment again this season. The Cubs couldn’t even deal with the retiring of Piniella without causing controversy.
They named Quade as the interim manager even though Alan Trammell was the interim manager earlier this season when Piniella was away. The Cubs have said that Trammell is not in the running for the manager’s job next year. Quade was the manager at Triple-A Iowa from 2003-2006 before coming to the big league team.
Cubs Continue to Lose: The Cubs have lost eight of their last eleven and they are more than 20 games behind the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central. There are not many positives for Chicago but at least they can start anew now that Piniella is gone.
