Early Heisman Trophy Sports Betting Contenders. Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner was Alabama running back Mark Ingram but he is not necessarily the sports betting favorite in 2010.There are a number of contenders in sports betting online to win the Heisman Trophy this season.Sports betting odds on the Heisman Trophy before the season begins really are not good at predicting the ultimate winner.  Was Ingram or Ndamukong Suh at the top of preseason Heisman lists last season?  The better way to consider Heisman Trophy odds is to look at all of the contenders.

One of the leading candidates to win the Heisman Trophy this season is Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor. He has a high profile, a team in Ohio State that could be a national contender and an offense that depends on him to score. Other quarterbacks that could be in the mix include TCU’s Andy Dalton, Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert, Miami’s Jacory Harris, Houston’s Case Keenum, Washington’s Jake Locker, Stanford’s Andrew Luck, Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett and Boise State’s Kellen Moore.

Quarterbacks are usually the way to go in Heisman Trophy sports betting but as last year proved running backs are not a bad choice either.  Ingram is a contender but he is likely to split time with Trent Richardson so even though the Crimson Tide is a national title contender, neither of them will win unless one of them gets hurt.  Other players that could be in the hunt include Wisconsin running back John Clay, West Virginia’s Noel Devine, Pittsburgh’s Dion Lewis, Oregon State’s Jacquizz Rodgers, Penn State’s Evan Royster and Virginia Tech’s Ryan Williams.

The Heisman Trophy winner is usually a player from a star team.  It is tough for a team that is not in the national title chase to win the award. It can be done, but not without a superstar performance.  That qualification narrows the sports betting list down to a select few. Pryor is definitely one of the favorites since the Buckeyes are going to be very good.  Boise State’s Kellen Moore or Virginia Tech’s Ryan Williams could be in the mix since those teams play each other in Week 1. The losing team’s player is probably going to be out of the mix. There is also the possibility that a player comes from nowhere to get into the Heisman Trophy race as seems to happen on a regular basis.
