Sports betting fans watched Panathinakios win their first Greek league title in six years on Sunday as they clinched the title with a 2-0 win over Iraklis. Djibril Cisse and Sotiris Ninis scored and Panathinakios got the online sports betting win.
Sports betting favored Olympiakos before the season began but it has been a poor season for the defending champs as they have had two head coaches fired. Olympiakos had won 12 out of the previous 13 titles but not this year.
Cisse scored his 23rd goal of the online sports betting soccer season for Panathinaikos and he will win the league’s scoring title. Panathinaikos not only wins the league but they also clinch a berth in the group stage of the Champions League.
Coach Nikos Nioplias was simply thrilled that his team clinched the title. “Today is a day of joy for myself and the whole club. When you have good players your dreams can be realized,” Nioplias said, “Our big target was the league title. We also want to win the cup but the championship is what gives the prestige and the opportunity to play in the Champions League.” Henk ten Cate was the team’s coach to start the year but Nikos Nioplias replaced him in December. It has been a very good run for Nioplias who led the team to success in the Europa League before the team fell to Standard Liege in sports betting odds in the quarter finals.
The last time Panathinaikos won the league title was in 2004. Panathinaikos will be going for the double when they play Aris Salonika in the Greek Cup final on April 24 in sports betting. “The title belongs to our supporters who have lived through strange times in recent years,” said Panathinaikos president Nikos Pateras, “I would like to thank them for the backing they have given the coach and the management from the start of the season. Without them we would not have been able to win the championship.”
With Panathinaikos getting the automatic bid to the Champions League for next season, the second through fifth place teams will battle for the other spot. Olympiakos, PAOK Salonika, AEK Athens and Aris will have a playoff to see which team joins Panathinaikos in the Champions League next season with Olympiakos being the sports betting favorite to emerge from that group of teams.
