Sports betting odds favor Justine Henin to win the French Open which begins on Monday. Unlike the men’s side of the draw where Rafael Nadal is a huge favorite, there are some contenders who could upset Henin in sports betting online odds.
Sports betting odds list Henin as the 8-5 favorite but there are three other players with single-digit odds. Serena Williams is the second choice in the betting at 5-1 followed by Jelena Jankovic at 6-1 while Venus Williams is listed at 9-1. There are six other players with odds of 20-1 or less so anything is possible on the women’s side in the French Open.
The French Open does start with Henin though. She won at Stuttgart but then lost at Madrid. Henin has always been lethal on clay but she is not yet at the form she had a few years ago. That doesn’t mean anyone in the field will beat her but it does mean an upset is possible.
Serena Williams is the top seed but you just never know when she is going to give a top effort. When she plays hard she is very tough to beat but that doesn’t always happen. She has not raised her game at Roland Garros very often and it doesn’t seem like she will this time. She has not won the French since 2002.
The player to consider could be Jankovic who has already beaten Serena this season. She is a two-time semifinalist at Roland Garros. Venus Williams has moved up to #2 in the world but clay is not her best surface so she would be an unlikely winner. The defending champion is Svetlana Kuznetsova but she is not playing well this season. She would have to make a major turnaround to be a factor at the French Open. She is 20-1 to win the French Open.
Dinara Safina lost in the final last year to Kuznetsova and she is not playing nearly as well this season and her 30-1 odds seem to indicate as much. A better longshot might be Caroline Wozniacki who is overdue to win. Her odds are listed at 20-1 at the sportsbook. Another contender could be Elena Dementieva who has already won two titles this season. She has gotten some action in sports betting as her French Open odds have dropped to 15-1.
