Sports Betting Handicappers Notice Oregon Coaching Move. The Oregon Ducks are going to be interesting to watch next season in college basketball sports betting as they will have a new head coach. The Ducks were hoping to hire a big name as head coach but they had to settle for Creighton head coach Dana Altman. That may not be a bad move in online sports betting considering Altman led Creighton to the NCAA Tournament seven times in 16 years.
Sports betting numbers indicated that Oregon has a very poor 2009-2010 season and because of that lack of success, head coach Ernie Kent was let go. Now it will be up to Altman to turn things around. Reports have Altman getting a seven-year contract worth $2 million per season. The Ducks tried to get a big name coach but they couldn’t get a coach like Tom Izzo to move west. Former Oregon athletic director Pat Kilkenny was the man who led the coaching search for the Ducks. “As the search started out, certainly that wasn’t a name that Pat had thought about,” Oregon senior associate athletic director Joe Giansante said about Altman, “But once you hear a name over and over and over and over again that many times, you take the opportunity to go visit with him.”
Altman had been at Creighton a long time so his leaving was emotional.”He was real emotional,” Creighton guard Josh Jones said about Altman, “He said he appreciated his time with us. I just wish him the best. I can understand he needed a change. I know he’s been around here a long time.”
Online sports betting statistics indicate that Altman was 327-176 in his 16 seasons with the Blue Jays.
The question for sports betting handicappers will be how Altman does at Oregon. He was successful in the Missouri Valley but the level of competition is better in the Pac-10. Giansante believes that Altman will do well at Oregon. “A pretty good indication about how good he is; is the way the people in Omaha are reacting about the possibility of losing him,” Giansante said. What Giansante did not say is that some people at Creighton believed it was time for Altman to leave. It was not a good season for the Blue Jays this past year and despite his overall success at the school, recent seasons have not been as good for the Blue Jays.
