Sports betting line moves are not always quite as simple as they appear. As you look at the sportsbetting line each day in the newspaper or at an online sportsbetting site, you should know that it has probably moved since the last time you looked at it. The sportsbetting line moves all the time and sometimes it moves a lot.
Sportsbetting can be very popular during football season and that is where the public notices line moves the most. Even though football is popular, it is not the sport with the biggest line moves. The biggest line moves almost always occur in basketball and usually they occur on NBA totals. It is not unusual at all to see an NBA total move 5 or 6 points. That would be nearly unheard of in football sports betting. You will see a lot of line movement in football but the online sportsbetting moves are usually pretty small.
What about baseball, hockey, soccer and other sportsbetting line moves? In baseball you don’t see a great deal of line movement because it is a money line sport. The only thing the sportsbetting site can do is charge more money for those people wanting to take the favorite. The same thing happens in hockey and in soccer because they are normally money line sports.
Can you make money following sports betting line moves? This is a good question among sports bettors. The real answer is maybe. The reason for that answer is that if you are quick enough and have enough sportsbooks to follow then you might be able to follow good sports betting line moves and get the same number. For example, let’s say a syndicate hit a basketball game at -2.5 and the sportsbetting line went up to -3 and then moved to -4. If the game landed 3 then the sports betting line move won but what happened to the followers that laid -3, -3.5 and -4? They either pushed or lost the game. That is what happens to most followers in online sportsbetting line moves. They get the worst of the number. And getting the worst of the number over a long season can translate into a lot of losses over the season which turns a winning season into a losing one in online sports betting.
