Sports Betting – Mike Brown a Good Choice for the Lakers. The Los Angeles Lakers made news in sports betting on Wednesday as they hired former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown. The Lakers signed Brown to a four-year, $18.25 million dollar deal. The Lakers were a disappointment in this year’s playoffs and after the season head coach Phil Jackson retired. The Lakers are the most popular team in NBA sports betting online but they did not finish with a winning record vs. the point spread this past season.
22nd Lakers Head Coach
Mike Brown will become the 22nd coach in Los Angeles Lakers history. Brown has been a very successful head coach in the NBA but was fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers almost a year ago. He was the best coach in Cleveland Cavaliers history but he couldn’t get the Cavaliers to win an NBA title and was dismissed. Brown led the Cavaliers to the 2007 NBA Finals and went to the Eastern Conference finals twice in five years. His career record is a sparkling 272-138. The Lakers signed Brown to a four-year deal although the contract is for three-years with a team option for the fourth year. The Lakers were thought to be considering current assistant coach Brian Shaw and Rick Adelman but in recent days Brown moved ahead of both of those candidates and he got the job.
Lakers Should Improve Defensively
The biggest reason that the Lakers lost this season vs. the sports betting NBA odds at the Sbg sportsbook was a lack of defense. Los Angeles didn’t have the defense of previous years but that should change under Mike Brown. His teams in the past have been excellent defensively so look for the Lakers to be among the top teams next season in team defense. The Lakers ownership believes that they have enough offense already led by Kobe Bryant and that defense is what is needed for the team to win another title. Los Angeles should definitely have a different personality than they did this year under Phil Jackson.
Coaching Carousel
With Brown taking the Lakers job it is expected that Adelman will be the top choice for Golden State. Kevin McHale is also under consideration by Golden State. He may also be in the mix to replace Adelman in Houston.
