Sports Betting – Nadal Loses at Australian Open and fans are not happy. One of the two favorites in sports betting at Sbgglobal to win the Australian Open is out. World #1 Rafael Nadal was beaten soundly by David Ferrer on Wednesday.
Nadal was trying to become the first man since Rod Laver to hold all four Grand Slam titles at the same time. Nadal was heavily favored in online sports betting against Ferrer but the match was never close.
25-Match Winning Streak Ends
Nadal had been unbeatable in Grand Slam events, winning his last 25 matches. Nadal played hurt against Ferrer and it showed as he was routed 6-4, 6-2, and 6-3. Nadal was the overall favorite to win the Australian Open but he hurt his left thigh after the third game and was never a factor again against Ferrer. Speculation has it that Nadal has a small tear in a muscle in his left leg. The loss by Nadal ended his chances of holding all four Grand Slam titles at once. The last player to win a true Grand Slam, winning all four in the same year was Rod Laver in 1969.
Ferrer vs. Murray
In one semifinal it will be Ferrer against Andy Murray. It should be an easy match for Murray but nothing is guaranteed in sports betting in the Australian Open. Murray had trouble just getting this far as he struggled in a win against Alexander Dolgopolov. Murray played for the Australian Open title last year but lost to Roger Federer. Murray is ranked fifth in the world and he is trying to break a British drought in Grand Slam events that goes all the way back to 1936.
Federer vs. Djokovic
The other semifinal has Roger Federer going up against Novak Djokovic. Many people believe the winner of this match will win the Australian Open. Two years ago it was Djokovic who beat Federer in the semifinals on his way to winning the Australian Open. Djokovic is ranked #3 in the world and has had some success against Federer including in the semifinals of last year’s U.S. Open. Either Federer or Nadal has won the last 23 majors but only Federer is alive heading into the semifinals.
On the women’s side in the semifinals it was Kim Clijsters taking on Vera Zvonareva in a rematch of the U.S. Open final and #1 Caroline Wozniacki taking on China’s Li Na.
