Sports Betting Page – Careful about betting the Hawks early in the Season. The NBA season is getting underway so you have to consider which teams to take as you look at the odds at the sports betting page. If you look at last year’s standings you might be considering the Atlanta Hawks. You may want to slow down on taking the Hawks though in sports betting early in the season as they are getting used to a new coach and new offensive philosophy.
New Head Coach
The Hawks have a new head coach in Larry Drew and a much different offensive philosophy. The Hawks were a very solid team under Mike Woodson and they were 53-29 straight up and a very profitable 48-34 against the Sbg global point spread. They are almost assuredly not going to be that good this year and you may want to avoid them, especially early in the year. I mean really, what has Larry Drew done to prove that he can be a quality NBA head coach?
New Offense is struggling
The Hawks may end up being a better team offensively than they were under Woodson but right now they are not. In fact, the Hawks were last in the league in offensive rating in the preseason. Last year the Hawks may not have put up a ton of points but they were very efficient. They are not getting easy baskets right now and things do not look positive for the Hawks.
Hawks Will Miss Woodson
The Hawks made a huge mistake by firing Woodson. All he did was turn that team into winners. Yes, he struggled in the playoffs but the Hawks were at least a team that could contend. That might not be the case now. The Hawks were very well coached as they committed the fewest amount of turnovers in the league. They didn’t win in the playoffs though and Woodson was blamed. Maybe they should have gotten rid of Joe Johnson instead.
Early Season Schedule
The Hawks open up at Memphis on Wednesday and that will not be an easy game. The Grizzlies look to be improved and the Hawks could easily start the season with a loss so don’t be surprised if you see Atlanta start slowly against the odds on the sports betting page. Atlanta then goes to Philadelphia on Friday before they play their home opener against Washington on Saturday.
