When will the New York Mets stop being on the sports betting page for bad news? The Mets are in the news again as closer Francisco Rodriguez is out with a torn ligament in his right thumb. The Mets are going nowhere this season and sports betting gamblers at the Sbg sportsbook are starting to avoid them.
Sports betting page news last week indicated that Rodriguez was in an altercation that involved the grandfather of his children. K-Rod allegedly struck the father of his girlfriend which resulted in the man going to the hospital. Rodriguez was arrested for that incident and suspended by the Mets. It is bad enough that Rodriguez was foolish enough to get into an altercation at all but now it comes out that he tore a ligament in his right thumb in the process.
The Mets: The Mets now have to decide what to do with K-Rod. He is likely going to have surgery on the thumb and will miss the rest of the season. The Mets may just want to cut ties with their problem child closer. Rodriguez is already facing third-degree assault and second-degree harassment from the incident last week. He lost $125,000 in salary during his suspension and he might lose the rest of his salary this season as the Mets may decide that his injury was non-baseball related. The Mets might even go as far to void K-Rod’s entire contract.
The incident last week was just the latest trouble for Rodriguez. He has not been a model citizen while with the Mets and perhaps the team will finally do something about him. The Mets are out of the playoff race and they really don’t need negative attention. They are already a failure and a disappointment in the National League East. Now they have to deal with the K-Rod mess. There is not much to like about the Mets right now and they are probably not worth a baseball wager unless Johan Santana or R.A. Dickey is on the mound. Even though Rodriguez is a mess off the field he is still a good closer and the Mets will miss him in close games down the stretch which is why gamblers may just want to take Santana or Dickey and hope for a complete game.
