Sports betting numbers from last year’s college football do tell us a few things.  Home teams don’t win as often as you might expect. They won just over 63% of the time straight up.  Teams that were favored last season won straight up almost 76% of the time.  Breaking that down a little further we find that road favorites won over 71% of the time while home favorites won almost 78% of the time.  Home underdogs did not do well, winning just over 28% of the time.

When it comes to the point spread the numbers are definitely different. Home teams did not cover the spread as much as you might have thought. They were just 46.56% against the spread. That mean if you bet every single road team against the spread you would have won 52.44% of the time. You can’t automatically take the road team in every game and make money since the vigorous is involved but those numbers do tell you that your sports betting handicapping should begin with the road team.

The numbers are almost identical when it comes to favorites and underdogs against the sports betting college football odds. Favorites covered the spread about 48% of the time while underdogs came through about 52% of the time.  Breaking that down further we find that road favorites won 51% of the time against the spread while home favorites won just 46% of the time.  Road underdogs covered the spread almost 54% of the time while home dogs were a disappointing 48% against the sports betting number.

If you were playing totals in college football you would look to take the under.  Just over 52% of all games went under the Internet sports betting total last year in college football.  Those numbers are similar to the NFL where more games go under the total than go over. That probably makes sense since the public usually prefers to bet games to go over the total.
