Underdogs Hold Their Own in Week 1 College Football Sports Betting. The first week of the college football season is in the books and the underdogs definitely held their own in sports betting. Normally in the first week of the season you see favorites dominating with big wins and while that did happen a few times, more often than not the underdogs did well. Let’s look back at the first week and also look ahead to this week in college football online sports betting.
The top two teams in college football, Alabama and Ohio State were very impressive and they actually covered the spread. Alabama routed San Jose State while Ohio State ruined Marshall. After those two though, it was pretty ugly for the Top 25. On Thursday it was Pittsburgh losing outright to Utah while USC won but didn’t cover against Hawaii.
Saturday’s Marquee Failures – Saturday was not a good day for the Top 25 in college football in terms of covering the number. Alabama covered but Florida was unimpressive and didn’t cover against Miami of Ohio. Texas didn’t cover at Rice while TCU didn’t cover against Oregon State. Oklahoma only won by seven points against Utah State as they failed to cover while Nebraska just missed covering against Western Kentucky. Wisconsin also just missed as they were laying 20.5 at UNLV and won by 20. Oregon was the one impressive winner as they destroyed New Mexico 72-0.
LSU-North Carolina Game – The biggest line move that occurred in Week 1 was on the game between LSU and North Carolina. There was not as much action on it though at SBG even though the line moved a lot. The Tar Heels had a boat load of players who were suspended for the game so many sportsbooks took the game down and then put up a higher number. LSU dominated early and then quit playing and nearly lost the game. They ended up winning 30-24 but they did not cover the sports betting point spread.
Looking Ahead – Week #2 begins on Thursday with an interesting game on ESPN as Auburn plays Mississippi State. Both teams were impressive last week offensively so this could be fun to watch. Saturday’s feature games have Georgia at South Carolina, Michigan at Notre Dame, Florida State at Oklahoma, Penn State at Alabama, Oregon at Tennessee, Stanford at UCLA and Virginia at USC.
