Chelsea and the Premier League odds are available at the sports betting page with the season set to begin on Saturday.
Chelsea made a statement that impressed odds makers at the sports betting website as they routed West Bromwich Albion 6-0 in their opening match of the Premier League season. Chelsea is the favorite at sports betting companies to win the league again this season and they emphasized that fact with their opening win.
Sports betting website odds heavily favored Chelsea in the opener and the Blues delivered with a dominating performance. Goal differential can be important at the end of the season and Chelsea is off to a fast start. Chelsea has now scored 47 goals in their last 10 home matches.
Even though Chelsea was impressive, winning by a big margin in the opening match does not guarantee a title. In the 2003-2004 seasons, Manchester United won 4-0 at home against Bolton but they didn’t win the title. The following season it was Arsenal winning 4-1 over Everton on opening day and they did not win the title either.
Chelsea’s front three of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda were very impressive in the opener. Drogba had the hat trick against West Brom while Malouda added two goals. Frank Lampard had the other goal for the Blues. Last season Droba scored 29 goals to lead Chelsea and he is off to a fast start in 2010.
One of the challengers to Chelsea this season is expected to be Manchester City but they were lucky to escape Tottenham with a draw. Goalkeeper Joe Hart was superb in the goalless draw. The other main challengers to Chelsea had mixed results. Manchester United was expected to win their opener on Monday against Newcastle United while Arsenal and Liverpool played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
The schedule definitely helps Chelsea early in the season as they play at Wigan on Saturday and then host Stoke the following week. The Blues should not have too much difficulty in those two matches. They may not get tested until going to Manchester City late next month. The only concern for Chelsea is dealing with rumors about Real Madrid making a bid for Drogba. Madrid is coached by Jose Mourinho and Drogba really enjoyed playing for him. It is still very unlikely that Chelsea would let their top scorer leave but a $10 million dollar bid will at least get their attention.
