The Texas Longhorns were embarrassed at home this past Saturday as they lost against the college football odds at the sports betting website to Iowa State.
It is the first time since 1997 that the Longhorns have lost two straight games at home. It is getting ugly for head coach Mack Brown and right now the Longhorns are not a team you want to take at sports betting companies.
The Longhorns are now 4-3 overall and just 2-2 in the Big 12. The Longhorns had shocked Nebraska the previous week and then went home and laid an egg against Iowa State. On many levels it was inconceivable that Texas would lose at home to Iowa State but that is what happened.
Longhorns No Bargain at Home
The Longhorns lost 34-12 at home to UCLA and this past Saturday they were beaten 28-21 by Iowa State. Yes, Iowa State went into Austin and beat the Longhorns. And it was Iowa State team that had been outscored 120-27 the previous two weeks. And the game was not as close as the 28-21 score would indicate. Iowa State led 28-6 in the fourth quarter. An Iowa State team that is 112th in total defense and 104th in total offense. It was a disgraceful performance. Mack Brown called the loss to Iowa State “totally unacceptable.” A crowd of more than 100,000 would agree with him. And it was not a fluke win. Iowa State scored on drives of 80, 37, 89 and 40 yards. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert threw for 344 yards but had four turnovers.
This Week vs. Baylor
The losing at home may not be over for Texas. They host Baylor this week and for the first time in seemingly forever, the Bears are ranked in the Top 25. And we know that Texas is not. Could we actually see Texas as a home underdog against Baylor at the sports betting website? It probably won’t happen but perhaps it should. Texas has simply been awful at home and Baylor can score. They put up 47 points last week in a win over Kansas State. The Bears have the better quarterback and right now they have the better football team and who thought we would ever say that?
