There was no surprise in sports betting on Thursday night in the NBA Draft as the Washington Wizards selected Kentucky point guard John Wall with the number one pick. Wall is considered the one sure thing in this year’s draft and the Wizards could be vastly improved next season in Internet sports betting with him at the point.
Sports betting odds sure didn’t favor Washington much this past season as they went 26-56. That could change in 2010-2011. Wall averaged 16.6 points and 6.5 assists per game as a freshman with Kentucky. He is being favorably compared with Derrick Rose who was the NBA Rookie of the Year two seasons ago.
There was not a lot to like about the Wizards last season. They finished last in the Southeast Division and on many nights they were not competitive. They were 35-45-2 against the NBA Internet sports betting odds last season. They were 16-25 on the road last season vs. the NBA odds and 19-20-2 on the road vs. the number. The one thing that you could count on with Washington last year is that they went under the sports betting total. The Wizards went under in 51 of their 82 games last season in sports betting.
Washington was led in scoring last season by Andray Blatche who averaged 14.1 points per game. That should not be the case next season with Wall on the team. It should also be noted that Gilbert Arenas will be returning from suspension. Arenas is a great scorer and he seems excited to return to the Wizards, especially since they have Wall. Randy Foye is a capable player as well and he led the team in assists last season.
The Wizards were just 26th in the league in points per game last season so Wall should definitely improve those numbers. Washington only averaged 96.2 points per game. Their defense was not that much better as it ranked 16th in the league. Washington gave up 101 points per game last season. With a poor offense and a below average defense it is not hard to see why the Wizards lost versus the sports betting odds last season. That should change dramatically next season with Wall on the team.
