College Hoops News: Top Three College Hoops Teams Lose. Sports betting had #1 Kansas, #2 Kentucky and #3 Purdue all losing this past weekend. That should mean that #4 Syracuse moves up to #1 on Monday. Although all three top teams lost in online sports betting, none of the losses were totally unexpected.
Sports betting had Kansas losing at Oklahoma State on Saturday as James Anderson scored 27 points. The Jayhawks were trying to go unbeaten in the Big 12 but they didn’t have a lot to play for since they had already clinched the Big 12 title. Oklahoma State probably secured an NCAA Tournament bid with the victory. Kansas is still almost assuredly going to get a #1 seed so it was simply not a critical online sports betting game for the Jayhawks.
Second-ranked Kentucky lost at Tennessee on Saturday. The Volunteers also beat Kansas earlier this season. Winning at Tennessee is never easy and Kentucky was upset in College Hoops sports betting. It had been over four years since the top two teams in college basketball had lost on the same day. In January of 2006 it was top-ranked Duke losing to Georgetown and that same day second-ranked Florida lost to Tennessee.
The losses by Kansas and Kentucky were not totally unexpected in sports betting. Oklahoma State has a very strong RPI and is very tough at home while Tennessee continues to prove they can win on their home court. J.P. Price had 20 points while Scotty Hopson added 15 points in the Tennessee sports betting win. Kentucky trailed by 16 points early but fought their way back to tie the game late before losing. John Wall had 19 points while DeMarcus Cousins added 15 and a game-high 14 rebounds in the losing sports betting effort.
The third-ranked team in the country, the Purdue Boilermakers lost on Sunday at home to Michigan State in online sports betting. Raymar Morgan had 16 points and 11 rebounds as Michigan State won 53-44 in sports betting. Draymond Green added 12 points and 11 rebounds. This was also not a shocking sports betting loss. The Boilermakers lost second-leading scorer Robbie Hummel in last week’s game against Minnesota so it was not a surprise to see them lose to a very good Michigan State team. E’Twaun Moore had 12 points to lead Purdue. The Boilermakers fell out of first place in the Big 10 with the online sports betting loss and almost assuredly lost any chance of getting a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
