Sportsbook odds on the Cleveland Browns might pick up a little bit now that the Browns have a quarterback. Cleveland signed former Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme to a two-year deal and maybe the Browns offense will now be able to impact online sportsbook odds.
Sportsbook information shows that Delhomme is being released by the Panthers earlier this month. It did not take him long to find another job as the Browns came calling. Delhomme is expected to get $7 million this season from the Browns and he will also get $12.7 million from Carolina that he is still owed under his last contract.
Cleveland had Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn playing quarterback last season but the team let Anderson go and Quinn was traded on Sunday to the Denver Broncos. Cleveland already signed Seattle backup quarterback Seneca Wallace and there was not room for Quinn in Cleveland anymore. The question for Cleveland was what to do with Quinn. The Browns said that the starter’s job is Delhomme’s and they brought in Seneca Wallace to be the backup so Quinn had to go.
Another question to be answered is whether or not Delhomme is an upgrade. He had a poor 2009 season as he threw 18 interceptions. He did go 58-40 as a starter with Carolina and led the team to a Super Bowl appearance. He has not played well though since imploding against Arizona in the playoffs after the 2008 season. He is a veteran player though and has had success in the past and maybe that is enough for the Browns.
Cleveland has had a mess at the quarterback position for many years so perhaps Delhomme can at least give them consistent play and leadership at the position. The Browns really need to upgrade their offense if they are to contend and impact odds at the sportsbook. The Browns were last in the league in offense a year ago so there is no question they need to make some changes. Considering they were 8th in rushing it is easy to see where the problems were. They were last in the league in passing yards a year ago. Perhaps Delhomme can improve those numbers next season. Cleveland has Mike Holmgren in charge now and he seems to be making some moves that can turn the Browns into contenders vs. the odds at the online sportsbook next season.
