Chiefs Sign Thomas Jones

Sportsbook odds on the Kansas City Chiefs could be on the upswing as the Chiefs signed running back Thomas Jones to a two-year deal worth $5 million. Jones was released by the Jets simply for financial reasons. Jones has been one of the best running backs in the AFC for the past two seasons and should help the Chiefs vs. Internet sportsbook odds.

Sportsbook has the Chiefs looking improved for next season under new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis. Jones is a huge addition for Kansas City as he will be an excellent complement to Jamaal Charles. Last season Jones rushed for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Jets. He was a very popular player in New York and his teammates were very upset when he was let go. He had a career-high 331 carries last season for New York. He really should team up well with Charles who was Kansas City’s best player a year ago when he rushed for 1,120 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Jones is second only to LaDainian Tomlinson in rushing yards since 2005.

The Chiefs should be an interesting team to watch vs. odds next season. They were pretty much a bust this past year but that was the first year for head coach Todd Haley and the new regime in Kansas City. The Chiefs made some strides down the stretch and their offense is going to be good next season. Matt Cassel should thrive with Weis directing the offense and the Chiefs now have a very potent running game with Charles and Jones. The Chiefs were 11th in rushing last season and those numbers figure to improve.

The Chiefs also re-signed Chris Chambers so they have a top receiver to go along with Dwayne Bowe. The Chiefs will need to find a tight end and block better for Cassel but the offense definitely is on the upswing in Kansas City. Now if the Chiefs can pick up a marquee player in the NFL Draft for their defense they could really make some noise next season in the AFC West. The Chiefs were 29th in the league in points allowed as Internet sportsbook statistics indicated, so they definitely need some help on that side of the ball. The figure to get some help in the NFL Draft and a defensive lineman or linebacker could be where they go.
