Giant Shocker as New York Releases Pierce. Sportsbook had the New York Giants releasing their captain on Thursday as middle linebacker Antonio Pierce was let go.The Giants did not have a good sportsbook year in 2009 and Pierce was one of the fall guys. It was still a sportsbook online surprise to see the former All-Pro cut loose.
Sportsbook had Pierce being surprised as well. “I was shocked at first, but I’m not the one up there up in the office, and they said they felt they needed to go in another direction,” Pierce said to ESPN, “They said it wasn’t my health, or the way I played, but just that — that they were going in another direction. We left everything smooth and peaceful and I’m happy about that. I felt like I said everything I needed to say to them. I’ve loved my time in New York and won’t have anything but good feelings about being with this team Giants.”
Sportsbook online numbers indicated that Pierce had a year left on the contract he signed in 2005. He is expected to be at full strength for next sportsbook online season. “I can’t say I’m 100 percent yet, but with the season still six months away, I’m right where I need to be and I’m going to be fine,” he said. The Giants had a number of problems and Pierce was definitely not the culprit. Defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan and defensive line coach Mike Waufle were fired after the sportsbook NFL season ended.
Pierce had more troubles off the field than he did on it. He was the one who drove Plaxico Burress to the hospital in November of 2008. He was not indicted by the grand jury for his role in the incident but he took a major public relations hit.
Sportsbook online had Pierce as an excellent player for the New York Giants. Sportsbook stats had him leading the team a total of three seasons in tackles. Sportsbook had him as the Giants captain on the team for three seasons and he made the Pro Bowl in 2006. “When we brought him in here we were interested in A.P. for all of the dimensions he brought to the table his leadership qualities, his natural charismatic ability to rally the troops, he loved football, he’s a very smart football player he took great pride in studying the tape and knowing what everybody did on defense,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said.
The Giants will miss the leadership of Pierce and their results at the sportsbook may not get any better now that he is gone.
