Sportsbook free agency is the buzz around the NFL and the Jacksonville Jaguars made a splash by getting defensive end Aaron Kampman from the Green Bay Packers. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive end should definitely upgrade the Jaguars defensive line and Jacksonville could be moving in a positive direction in odds at the online sportsbook.
Sportsbook probably would have seen the Jaguars take a defensive end with the 10th pick in the NFL Draft but that probably won’t happen now. Kampman was been very good for Green Bay over the past eight seasons. He had 54 career sacks and he was a Pro Bowl selection in 2006 and in 2007. He was moved to outside linebacker for Green Bay this past season and had 55 tackles and 3.5 sacks before getting injured in late November.
Just how important could Kampman be for Jacksonville? Consider that the Jaguars were last in the league a year ago with a franchise-low 14 sacks. It was the fifth-lowest in NFL history. Getting Kampman is a major addition for the Jaguars. Kampman has 592 tackles, 13 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 112 career games for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars were not very good a year ago as they went 7-9 straight up and 5-11 vs. the odds at the sportsbook. The defense was not very good as they ranked 24th in the league in points allowed. They were not very good on offense either but they still have a great running back in Maurice Jones-Drew who can always impact the odds at the online sportsbook.
Jacksonville has been active in free agency as they also signed Kassim Osgood. He is a three-time Pro Bowler who is a special teams player. The deal is for three years for $6.675 million, with $2.975 million guaranteed. “[Jacksonville] is that hard-nosed team that likes contact and hitting people,” Osgood said. “They’re a smash mouth team with great coaches [and it’s] a great area to live in. The opportunity was just amazing. They’re a good team that’s ascending and I want to be a part of that. I just know they’re right there at the edge of breaking over the top and becoming one of the dominant teams in the league.” Osgood may also see some time at wide receiver for the Jaguars. Osgood has 96 special-teams tackles and has missed just four career games. “I bring that fight music, that hard nose,” Osgood said.
