NFL Commissioner Goodell Gets New Contract. Sportsbook had NFL commissioner Roger Goodell getting a new five-year contract. His contract was due to expire in September of this year but NFL owners voted to give him a new deal that will go until March 2015. Goodell will be counted on to lead the league through a difficult negotiation with the players since the current CBA expires after next online sportsbook season.
Sportsbook stats had Goodell making almost $10 million last year, much of it in bonus and incentives. Sportsbook has seen Goodell proving that he can deal with difficult situations and he is well respected by almost everyone in the NFL. “We’re going into a major negotiation. It will be very difficult probably in many ways and we want to have someone who has his own views, who’s going to have to make some hard decisions that maybe some of us won’t like,” New England owner Robert Craft said, “But in the end, I think we’re confident that he and his team will do what’s for the best long-term interest of the league.”
Next sportsbook season is the last one the NFL and the players will enjoy under the current CBA. Sportsbook had NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith saying that the chances of a lockout after next season are high. The NFL has not had a work stoppage since 1987 when there were games on the online sportsbook odds board with replacement players and both sides will look to avoid that situation this time.
Online sportsbook have many people believing that Goodell will act in the best interest of the league and that he can avoid a work stoppage. “Commissioner Goodell and his staff have done an outstanding job and this is a statement of confidence in Roger’s leadership,” said Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, “NFL ownership recognizes his already significant list of accomplishments and is fully behind his strategic vision for the future of our league.”
The NFL is the most popular sport in the United States and it is also the most popular sport at the sportsbook. Goodell has done an excellent job of keeping interest in the NFL at an all-time high and even though the NFL does not support gambling, the interest at the online sportsbook is huge. Sportsbook had Super Bowl XLIV being the most watched television program ever so it is clear that Goodell has done well.
