Sportsbook Favorites to Win the CY Young Award

Sportsbook Favorites to Win the CY Young Award. Who are the favorites at the sportsbook to win the CY Young award this season? There is no question that Ubaldo Jimenez is the favorite at the Internet sportsbook in the National League while there are a number of contenders in the American League.

Sportsbook odds heavily favor Jimenez in the National League.  He has won 14 games already this season and although he has looked mortal recently, he is still the overwhelming favorite in the National League. It should be noted that much of his recent struggles came against American League teams and he won’t be facing them again this season. If you are looking for a pitcher that could make a run and upset Jimenez then it could be Florida’s Josh Johnson.  He went eight straight starts from mid-May through Mid-June allowing one run or no runs.  It was the third-longest streak in Major League Baseball history.

You can’t discount St. Louis pitchers Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter. What hurts these two is that they pitch on the same team.  Carpenter should have won the award last season but voters robbed him. They could both miss out this year even though they have been great. In his first 15 starts, Wainwright went six innings or more. Carpenter has done the same thing in each of his 16 starts.  Roy Halladay is in the CY Young race simply because of his name but in terms of stats he is behind the top four.

The American League CY Young race is led by Tampa’s David Price.  He has been dominating hitters all season.  He has 11 wins and is second in the league in ERA.  With the Rays in a slump it will be interesting to see how he does in upcoming starts. Moving up fast on Price is Seattle’s Cliff Lee.  He has thrown three straight complete games including a win over the Yankees.  He has been the most dominant pitcher in baseball the last few weeks.  He has a weak team behind him but his reputation is as a big-game pitcher and he could overtake Price for the CY Young. Also in the mix is Boston’s Jon Lester.  Since his first couple of starts, Lester has been brilliant.  He has allowed one or no runs in nine of his last twelve starts.  New York’s Andy Pettitte could also be a contender since he pitches on one of the best hitting teams in the league.
