Sportsbook teasers are similar to parlays in that it is a group of plays merged into one. The difference with a teaser is that you get extra points to help your wager but at lower odds. For example, let’s say you wanted to put four teams on a teaser at a sportsbook in NFL betting. The regular sportsbook line had New England at -7, Dallas at -14, Cleveland at +3 and Pittsburgh at -3. Your sportsbook teaser options are usually an additional 6, 6.5 or 7 points. That would mean with this sportsbook teaser you would get the four teams at better odds.
Let’s say you took the 7 point teaser. Now you would have New England at a pick, Dallas at -7, Cleveland at +10 and Pittsburgh at +4. Just like a parlay, all four of the teams would have to cover the spread for your teaser to be a winner. But now you get that extra touchdown with each of the four teams instead of the regular line. Because you get extra points the Internet sportsbook teaser odds are lower than parlay odds. Typically a four-team parlay at a sportsbook would pay about 10-1. A four-team teaser might only pay about 2-1 at an Internet sportsbook.
Teasers are available at a sportsbook on football and on basketball. Teasers are not as popular in basketball at an Internet sportsbook for two reasons. First, not as many people bet basketball since football is the more popular sport. Second, the extra 4 or 5 points are not as helpful in basketball as an extra touchdown would be in football. Teasers in basketball are usually 4, 4.5 and 5 points. Many gamblers prefer to bet parlays in basketball as opposed to betting teasers at an Internet sportsbook.
Teasers are a nice option in sportsbook betting, especially if you always seem to lose games by a point or so.
